Meet Our Optometrists
Heather Small, OD is originally from Cullman, AL. She graduated from UAB School of Optometry in 2010 and opened East Limestone Eye Care in 2011. Dr. Small sees patients of all ages and has a special interest in patients that may be at risk for glaucoma or diabetes. East Limestone Eye Care has advanced equipment to monitor and detect these conditions. She was on the Vision America executive board for 6 years. Dr. Small married her husband Cameron in 2014 and her daughter Emery was born in 2018. Her son Mason was born in 2021 and completed her family. When she isn’t seeing patients she loves to spend time with her kids and husband and enjoys being outdoors. Dr. Small loves helping people see better and really enjoys seeing her patients.
Melissa Doucette, OD is originally from Vermont, but has lived the last 9 years in Alabama. She graduated with honors from the New England College of Optometry. In her fourth year of school she did an ocular disease externship at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. She has enjoyed seeing patients at East Limestone Eye Care since 2018. She prides herself on providing quality, comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages. She enjoys cooking and nature, and lives in Madison with her husband and twin children.
Born and raised in south Texas, Dr. Christina Canales received her chemistry degree from The University of Texas at Austin (while she is a Longhorn, she doesn't follow football). She then pursued her professional doctorate from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She moved to Alabama shortly after graduating; she eventually met her Huntsville-native husband here. They now have two young children together. When she's not in the office, Dr. Canales enjoys spending time with her family, painting, and swimming.
